Originally, we wanting to start our sequence with the shot of Maya practising on the speed bag but after one of our meetings, we felt that it would be more suitable to have a sequence of Maya entering the setting as it sets the scene and also provides a lot of editing options.

Having a sequence such as this was really fun to edit as we had many different options to provide continuity and establish not only the setting but the main character as well.

We did not film our conversations successively, we had our cast act out their scenes alone as if the other character was present with them so we had to make it seem as if they were together so positioning was a very key part of our filming process. We made sure that 'Drew' was on the left side of the frame and even though Maya was also on the left side of the punching bag we made it so that she would look back every few seconds so the audience could identify who she was talking to.

After Maya knocks Drew on the ground we actually follow this up with a low angle shot from his shoulder looking up at Maya and she delivered her last line of the sequence. We did this because commonly in film this type of shot was a way to put authority and power to whoever is was looking up to so this shot helped Maya seem much stronger than she actually is and emphasise how much Drew misjudged her and how low of a person he must be feeling at that moment.
We were going to end the scene after this but in order to finalise the setting and make it clear that the next scene would definitely not be in the gym anymore, we did a final shot of Maya exiting the ring and presumably the location.
